Protokulture Directs YouTube Ad Blitz

February 2, 2012- CHICAGO, IL- John Michaels created and directed a new spot for Google’s YouTube Ad Blitz, a campaign that calls on Super Bowl viewers to watch, share, and vote for their favorite Super Bowl ads. Showing on YouTube’s Ad Blitz homepage, the spot will run through February 18th when the votes are tallied and the winning ad claims its prize on YouTube’s homepage.  Read the Screen article here…

Close Quarters

In the most recent of collaborations with director Jack C. Protokulture kicks off Big Ten’s football season!

Chicago, IL. October 27, 2011, –– Adam Marton of AM Films and the design team at Protokulture joined forces to create graphic packages for two new shows at the Big Ten Network. Both spots, “BTN Live” and “Tailgate 48,” debuted this fall. Adam Marton of AM Films, who provides broadcast design services to TV networks nationwide, included Protokulture in the pitch. “Protokulture has done great broadcast work for us in the past, and their detailed and stylistic tone was a perfect match for the network,” says Marton, “The challenge with ʻBTN Liveʼ specifically was introducing interactive elements in a traditional broadcast setting.” The “Tailgate 48” graphics package, Marton adds, “embodies 48 action-packed, football-talking, burger-eating, history-learning, fan-partying hours coming to a college campus every Friday and Saturday.”

“We sat down with the network producers and helped them create a concept that appeals to their audience,” commented Protokulture founder John Michaels. “They said, ʻHere is what we want to do, how can you help us make it happen?ʼ” In addition to the Big Ten Network, Protokulture has created content for G4, Animal Planet, History Channel, and Discovery networks.

AICE

Protokulture recently joined the Midwest chapter of the Association of Independent Commercial Editors (AICE) after the organization expanded its membership to design and motion graphics companies. “Motion graphics companies are an essential part of the post-production process and we are looking forward to being a contributing voice within the organization,” states Managing Director Kelley Clark. Protokulture’s first assignment with AICE was collaborating on the design for the 2010 AICE Midwest awards show on May 20th. The design team was influenced by the revolutionary aspect of this year’s theme, “The Revolution Will Be Edited” and came up with a precisionist inspired design featuring a fist consisting of editing materials.

We recently collaborated with Director Michael Neuman on a spot with the Milwaukee-based agency Welke Group for the Verlo mattress brand. The spot was shot on green screen and features hand-drawn 2D animation. Here are some pictures of the shoot, and the final product here.

Recent Columbia College grad Ben Christie started off taking out the garbage as an intern and we liked him so much that we had to hire him. He’s a talented designer and tough Mortal Kombat opponent. He still enjoys taking out the garbage.
